PURPOSE: To allow the hue of a character inserted into a video to always have a complementary color relation with the color of a video signal by delaying a character signal in a complementary color conversion and encoding time, and applying it as a character synthesis control signal to a mixer. CONSTITUTION: A video encoder 23 which inputs a color character operates the encoding of the signal of a color character, generates a character signal VCG, and supplies it to a mixer 25. A video signal VCS is supplied also to the mixer 25. The signal VCS is synthesized with the signal VCG by the mixer 25, and a composite video signal VCSO is generated. At that time, a delay circuit 24 delays a character signal CGC generated from a character generator 19 while the character signal GCG is delayed through a complementary color detecting and controlling circuit 21 and the encoder 23, and this signal is supplied to the mixer 25 as a signal for controlling the mixing of the signal VCG and the signal VCS. |
