The programmer, especially for machines for washing dishes or clothes comprises a reversal cam 1 driven permanently and continuously in rotation, a programme cam block 8 driven in rotation step by step by a pawl device 7, a selector element 21 for one of the washing programmes and a control element 13 arranged to cooperate directly with the reversal cam 1 and drive the programme cam block in rapid rotation as far as the start position for the chosen programme. During the programme search, the motor is directly supplied with electrical energy, the elements of the machine are isolated. Such a programmer needs no additional so-called rapid advance element, such as a second motor or even an electromagnet. <IMAGE>
