PURPOSE: To obtain a cataract therapeutic agent containing a 2-substituted thiazolidine-4-carboxylic acid compound as active ingredient. CONSTITUTION: This therapeutic agent for cataract contains a compound of the formula R is H, OH, a 1-20C aliphatic group, (CH2 )n -Q ((n) is 0-20; Q is phenyl, thienyl, furyl or pyridyl), (CH2 )n -T [T is a 3-7C alicyclic group, =O, a 2-5C ketal, 0-1-10C aliphatic group, N(R1 )2 (R1 is H or a 1-5C alkyl)], thiazolidine, etc.; Z is OH or a salt thereof, OR3 (R3 is a 1-10C aliphatic group), or N(R1 )2 } as active ingredient. The compound of the formula is obtained by condensation reaction between the aldehyde corresponding to a desired substituent and cysteine or a protected cysteine (pref. L-cysteine) pref. at room temperature for 1-2h.
