A formulation for cosmetic use by topical epidermal administration including an aqueous solution of the heat stable fraction of hyaluronic acid and preservatives. A method of producing such a stable,purified, heat sterilized fraction of hyaluronic acid. A process of preparing a formulation including such a fraction of hyaluronic acid for cosmetic use on humans. A treatment for skin conditions caused by aging, and excessive environmental exposure, involving topical epidermal administration of a cosmetic formulation containing an effective amount of such a heat stable, purified, heat-sterilized fraction of hyaluronic acid.
