The subject of the invention is a covering for absorbing and storing rainwater, characterised in that it comprises, at the surface, a layer 1 of self-locking porous slabs 2, placed on a layer of permeable sand 3 with a large particle size, a few centimetres thick, a sheet of anti-contamination structural textile 4 arranged under the layer of sand 3, and a foundation 5 arranged under the sheet of structural textile, consisting of relatively large crushed limestone elements, comprising a large void ratio and with a thickness which is a function of the traffic to be supported and the quantity of water to store, and a drainage system 7, 8 arranged under the foundation 5 and distributed as a function of the permeability of the ground 6 and of the total surface to cover.
