A housing encloses a chamber, the housing having a first port in a first side for receiving the beam into the chamber along the first path and a second port in a second side through which the beam exits the chamber along one of the second paths. A deflector within the chamber intersects the first beam and deflects the first beam along anyone of the second paths. A control is coupled to the deflector for remotely moving the deflector from outside the chamber. Any of the second paths can be selected, the deflector comprising a first ball element mounted in a first socket, which socket is rotational throughout a preselected angular range about a first axis only through the first ball element. A second ball element is attached to the first ball element mounted in a second socket for rotational movement throughout a preselected angular range about a second axis only through the second ball element, the second socket being attached to the housing. A mirror element is carried by the first socket and disposed to intersect the first path.
