A method for automatically feeding large-calibre ammunition to a gun, as well as a device for carrying out the method. In the case of the method, the projectile (17) and propellant charge (16) are arranged one behind the other in a common, cylindrical guide sleeve (2) which is closed at its rear end by a displaceable piston (15). The guide sleeve is moved into a position behind the base piece (1) of the gun, in which it is aligned flush with respect to the barrel bore axis (R) of the gun, and its front end is placed directly against the rear end of the base piece (1), by means of a compression bellows (5b) which is operated by compressed air. The piston (15) then has a compressed-air jet applied to it, via a forward-propulsion nozzle (6) on its outside, in order to drive the projectile (17) and the propellant charge (16) out of the guide sleeve (2) into the gun. The feeding and positioning of the guide sleeves (2) can be carried out by means of a gripper arm which can move by means of pneumatic cylinders. <IMAGE>
