A transportation device for payloads is described, especially a projectile (10) having submunitions (12) which are arranged one behind the other in the axial direction of the projectile (10), between a tail part (16) and a nose part (18) of the projectile (10), and are surrounded by a case (20) which forms the envelope of the projectile (10). The case (20) also at least partially encloses the tail part (16) and the nose part (18) of the projectile (10). In order to reduce the weight of the case (20) and thus the ratio of the weight of the case (20) to the weight of the payload, the case (20) consists of a material which is wound around the submunitions (12) forming a winding mandrel, and which material is preferably a fibre-reinforced plastic material. <IMAGE>
