PURPOSE:To obtain a simple, compact, and high-precision scale which is easy of digital display and remote transmission by providing a light source, which emits light from one end part, at least, of an optical fiber whose side face is notched at intervals of prescribed dimensions in the axial direction, and a detector which detects the light leaked from notches. CONSTITUTION:The side face of an optical fiber 1 is notched in positions 1a, 1a- at intervals of prescribed dimensions in the axial direction, and a light detecting device 3 is provided freely slidably in the axial direction, and a laser light is emitted from a laser oscillator 2 to the inside of the optical fiber 1, and the moving position of the light detecting device 3 is detected. When the light detecting device 3 is moved in the positive direction, a vice table element 8 is reset by the pulse signal from a pulse generating circuit 7-9; and when the pulse signal from a pulse generating circuit 7-0 is inputted to an AND circuit 10, it is counted by a reversible counter 12-1. Even if the light detecting device 3 is moved in the reverse direction after it is moved in the positive direction furthermore, the output pulse does not pass through the AND circuit 10 and is not counted. |
