PURPOSE:To obtain a reproducing picture without disorder in vertical synchronization even a video disk is of a CLV format by jumping a prescribed track at the time of a scanning reproducing of the disk. CONSTITUTION:The subject player consists of the disk 10 of the CLV format, a reproducing circuit 20, a tracking servo circuit 30 and a thread servo circuit 40, etc. Then, when a large track is jumped over for the scanning reproducing, a regenerated vertical synchronizing pulse PBKV is checked in phase difference, and when this is large enough to disorder the vertical synchronization, a track jump of several tracks or moreover a track jump of X-track which does not disorder the vertical synchronization is performed. Nevertheless, in the case of such a phase difference as of disordering the vertical synchronization, this is regarded as a dead zone, and a track jump in a medium degree is performed until slipping out of this dead zone. By this method, the reproducing picture without disorder in vertical synchronization is obtained even with a video disk of the CLV format.
