The device employs a pair of plane mirrors (50,51) mutually inclined at 90 degrees and set with their common edge at 45 degrees to the principal axis of the light path. In this way the image of a film negative is displayed on a transparent monitor screen (26) without inversion. Movements of the negative thus result in corresponding image movements. A drive mechanism enables automatic change-over from viewing to print mode by removing the reflective system from the light path. Optically equivalent prisms are specified as an alternative to mirrors.
