PURPOSE:To prevent entry of alumina powder or the like into a gas diffusion hole during the coating therewith by using an organic material that burns away by a baking temperature of powdered glass or the like to cover the gas diffusion hole. CONSTITUTION:Platinum or the like is baked by printing on both sides of a solid electrolyte pellet 1 comprising stabilized zirconia to form an electrode 2. Then, on the side of one electrode 2, a tube 3 in which an organic material is applied at a lower end opening thereof 3 having a gas diffusion hole 3a at the center thereof to close the lower end opening of the gas diffusion hole 3a is held vertically and an alumina powder or the like is applied and baked to form a gas reaction chamber 4. Then, powdered glass or the like is applied and baked with an upper part of the tube 3 exposed outward to form a cap on the gas reaction chamber 4. During the baking of the powdered glass or the like, the organic material 8 burns away and the lower end of the gas diffusion hole 3a is opened to the gas reaction chamber 4 while a space 9 where none of the alumina powder or the like exists is formed to cause an oxygen pumping action. |
