PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for a waste toner detector and to simplify the structure and assembly operation of the above unit by housing a waste toner into a waste toner housing part of a cleaning device until the life of an image carrier runs out. CONSTITUTION:The waste toner sticking to the image carrier 24 is scraped by a blade 28 and is transported deep into the waste toner housing part 27a by a roller 29. The housing capacity of the waste toner housing part 27a is so determined as to equal the period when the housing is filled full with the waste toner to the service life of the image carrier 24 or longer. The waste toner can be housed into the waste toner housing part 27a of the cleaning device 27 in such a manner until the life of the image carrier runs out. The operation for cleaning the waste toner of the waste toner housing part is omitted in this way; in addition, the need for the waste toner detector for detecting the volume of the waste toner is eliminated. The construction and assembly operation are thus simplified. |
