In order to simplify and improve the results of a process for manufacturing a casting, in particular of aluminium, provided with a porous insert (2), in which the insert (2) is surrounded by molten metal in a casting mould (1) and the molten metal is placed under pressure in order to penetrate the pores of the insert, only the porous insert (2) surrounded by molten metal in the casting mould (1) is evacuated before the penetration pressure is applied to the molten metal. A special advantage of this process is that it is not necessary to evacuate the entire contents of the mould (1), but only the porous insert (2) into which the molten metal is to penetrate. If the porous insert (2) is not to be impregnated with molten metal, the same principle can be applied, and instead of evacuating the pores of the insert a compressed gas can be used to prevent penetration of the molten metal. |
