A method and a device for pneumatically conveying material to be conveyed in a pipe-like conveyor conduit (10), into which compressed gas is introduced from a connection conduit (12, 12a), are improved in that, when there is a rise in pressure in the conveyor conduit (10) in conveying direction (x) upstream of the connection conduit or its opening (13), the latter is opened for air supply from a secondary conduit (16) with high pressure, and in that this air supply into the conveyor conduit (10) is interrupted upon pressure compensation in the conveyor conduit (10) in the areas upstream as well as downstream of the opening (13) of the connection conduit (12). To this end, the connection conduit (12) is provided with a slide (gate) (24) as control member which blocks the conduit in a basic position and is arranged in a flow area (22) between a first and a second sensor conduit (46, 47), each of which opens into the conveyor conduit (10) on another side of the connection conduit (12) and is connected via a constriction length (40, 41) to that section (12e) of the connection conduit (12) leading to the secondary conduit (16). Specially designed valves (50, 52) are provided in the connection and sensor conduits (12 and 46, 47).
