The stationary oscillator (10) carries an electrostrictive disc (11) on which, in turn, a ring (12) of electric material is mounted. The ring (12) is typically made from aluminium alloy or stainless steel, and its upper face is formed into as saw-toothed surface (14). The rotor (20) is located in a bearing (21,13) in the oscillator body and rests on the saw-toothed surface (14). When voltage pulses are applied the electro-strictive disc (11) and its ring (12) form contacted and expanded poles, and these move the rotor. A succession of alternately poled pulses thus sets the rotor in motion. Two like poles and on unlike pole are generated at each pulse.
