PURPOSE:To obtain the subject compound under mild condition in high selectivity and efficiency by hydrogenating maleic acid and/or maleic anhydride in liquid phase using a ruthenium catalyst composed of a specific component. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound is produced by hydrogenating maleic acid and/or maleic anhydride in liquid phase using a catalyst consisting of (a) ruthenium, (b) an organic phosphine, (c) a conjugated base of an acid having a pKa value of <2 and (d) a chlorine containing compound selected from alkali metal chloride, alkaline-earth metal chloride, ammonium chloride, phosphonium chloride, primary-tertiary amine hydrochloride, quaternary ammonium hydrochloride, primary-tertiary phosphine hydrochloride and quaternary phosphonium hydrochloride. The reaction temperature is 50-250 deg.C, especially 100-200 deg.C. |
