An information processing apparatus, an information processing method, and a computer program are provided to detect a viewing direction of a human or an animal in a taken image by analyzing an image photographed by a camera. A face detector(101) detects a face region included image data, and a face component detector(102) detects face components from the detected face region. A viewing decider(104) executes a viewing determination process about the detected face image at which the face components are detected. About the viewing direction of a face image at which the face components are detected, the viewing decider decides whether the direction is in a positive state at which the viewing direction faces the camera or a negative state at which the viewing direction does not face the camera.
