The method involves fixing impression material supports (5, 50) on an inflating elements (4) that are inflated with sufficient pressure and time so as to radially deform the supports, uniformly apply an impression material on the zone and to attain hardening of an impression taking material. The elements are deflated, and the deflated elements and the support are extracted from the tube, where the support provides the impression of the zone. The impression is covered and its section is measured. Silicon with reaction is used by a hydrophilic addition and the impression taking material. An independent claim is also included for a device for detecting a surface fault.
