PURPOSE:To reduce a shift shock by applying a braking force to driving wheels if an automatic transmission is shifted when the present operation state is the specific operation state in which the change of the engine generated torque is undesirable. CONSTITUTION:In the case an automatic transmission is shifted when an operation state judging means judges that the preset operation state detected by an operation state detecting means is the specific operation state in which the change of the engine generated torque is undesirable, a torque change limiting means limits the change of the engine generated torque. A brake control means concurrently applies a braking force to driving wheels via a braking force adjusting means, and the temporary peak of the drive torque appearing as a shift shock is radiated as heat energy with brakes of driving wheels. A shift shock can be reduced without impairing the reliability of friction elements under the operation state in which the change of the generated torque is undesirable.
