摘要 <p>PURPOSE:To readily industrially advantageously obtain the high-purity title compound useful as a raw material for resin and polymer by oxidizing a specific aromatic compound with a molecular O2-containing gas using a heteropolyacid as a promoter in the presence of a specific catalyst in a water solvent. CONSTITUTION:An aromatic compound containing an alkyl substituent group or partly oxidized alkyl group such as p-toluic acid is oxidized, preferably in the presence of a heavy metal as a metal compound such as cobalt (II) acetate or manganese (II) acetate, bromine compound catalyst such as HBr and further heteropolyacid promoter in a water solvent, normally at 20-300 deg.C for 0.5-20hr at ordinary pressure to 100kg/cm<2>G by a molecular O2-containing gas, preferably fed therein while continuously blowing to provide the aimed compound such as 4-carboxybenzaldehyde. Silicomolybdic acid, silicotungstic acid, phosphomolybdic acid, phosphotungstic acid, etc., is used as the above-mentioned heteropolyacid.</p>
