NEW MATERIAL:A condurango glycoside. Properties: White amorphous solid. Molecular weight: 1163 (by the field desorption mass spectrum). Elementary analysis: C, 59.24; H, 7.52. Melting point 160-167 deg.C. Specific rotarory power: [alpha]D<20> -25.4 deg. (C=0.35 in methanol). Color reactions: Positive to the Keller -Kiliani reaction, etc. Neutral. Soluble in water, methanol, etc. and insoluble in pentane, n-hexane, et. etc. USE:An antitumor agent. PROCESS:A condurango, e.g. a bark thereof, is extracted with an organic solvent, e.g. methanol, or a mixture thereof to give an extract, which is then concentrated to dryness under reduced pressure. The resultant residue is then mixed with a chlorinated hydrocarbon other than CCl4 to afford and extract, which is then passed through an open column and concentrated under reduced pressure to dryness. The resultant solid is then pulverized to give a brown powdery extract. The resultant extract is subjected to the high-speed liquid chromatography to fractionate and isolate the aimed condurange glycoside. |
