PURPOSE:To detect the residue of ink, and to exchange a recording-liquid housing section easily every time ink is exhausted by installing a recording head section and the recording-liquid housing section mutually detachably and mounting a recording liquid absorber and a plurality of electrodes capable of detecting the quantity of a recording liquid to the recording head section. CONSTITUTION:A recording head 1 is composed of mutually detachable recording head section 2 and ink tank 3, and an ink discharge section 7 having an energy generating element discharging ink from a discharge opening 6 in a liquid path, a liquid chamber 8 in which ink is stored temporarily, and an ink absorber 9 are charged to the recording head section 2. Residue detecting electrodes 18A, 18B, 18C are incorporated into a lead frame 17, and one ends are connected to ink-residue detecting pins 10X, 10Y, 10Z set up to an ink-residue detecting chamber 11. Sections among these electrodes are supplied with detecting currents through a resistor R from a power supply 18. The quantity of ink impregnated to the ink absorber 9 in the residue detecting chamber 11 is also diminished with reduction from the tank 3 of ink 4, electric resistance between the detecting pins 10X, 10Y is increased, the residue of ink is detected, and the time for the replacement of a recording-liquid housing section is recognized properly. |
