A base for a sealed storage container 10 which is supported with its centre of gravity above the base and is constructed with a curved bottom along at least one vertical plane. The base comprises a horizontal, load- bearing underlay 12 and a plinth 11 which supports with an essentially plane bottom surface 13 against the underlay 12, and connects with a vertical wall 15 to the container bottom.
