PURPOSE:To effectively utilize a battery power source by providing a driving current suppressing a circuit and suppressing a driving current to be supplied to a motor at a specific level when a voltage drop is detected. CONSTITUTION:When a seek command is outputted, a seek control is commenced, so that a carriage is driven and a positioning control for making a magnetic head seek for a target cylinder on a disk is performed. A target speed is generated by a target speed generating circuit 15, and the driving current to be supplied to the motor 11 is controlled by a VCM driver 12 to carry out the seeking. Now, the voltage of the battery power source is monitored by a power voltage monitoring circuit 13, and when this voltage is lowered below a prescribed level, the target speed is changed by the circuit 15. Then, the seek control is performed on the magnetic head, so that the acceleration/deceleration period is shortened, while the constant speed period is lengthened. Consequently, although the seek speed is dropped, the power consumption is suppressed, and hence the battery power source can effectively be used. |
