PURPOSE:To improve the adhesive strength of a nickel-fluorine composite plating layer while providing satisfactory wear resistance by specifying the amount of carbide in a chilled layer of the member in which the nickel-fluorine composite plating layer is provided on the chilled layer in the surface part, on the sliding-surface side, of a base material made of cast iron. CONSTITUTION:For example, an apex seal 1 as a sliding member for rotary piston engine is constituted of a base material 2 and a nickel-fluorine composite plating layer 3. The base material 2 is formed of cast iron, and a chilled layer 4 is formed in the surface part on the sliding-surface part, that is, at the end of the base material 2. In this chilled layer 4, carbide is contained by an amount in the range of 28-40% by area ratio. The amount of the above carbide can be regulated to the value in the above range by melting the end of the base material 2 by means of an electron beam, etc., and rapidly cooling the above end to form the chilled layer 4 and then subjecting this chilled layer to reheating, oil quenching treatment, etc. |
