PURPOSE:To obtain an antiretroviral agent containing sulfate of a hydrophilic solvent extract NF-86I, NF-86II, etc., of Areca catechu L. or salt thereof as an active ingredient, having extremely low toxicity and capable of administering in large quantities. CONSTITUTION:A degreased Areca catechu L. is extracted with a hydrophilic solvent and the extract is concentrated to dryness and water is added thereto to give a suspension. The suspension is filtered and a non-hydrophilic organic solvent is added to the filtrate and solvent soluble part is removed and the treated filtrate is fractionated using a membrane filter to afford a fraction (NF-86I) having 1000-10000 molecular weight and a fraction (NF-86II) having >=10000 molecular weight. The above-mentioned fractions are each separated using high speed liquid chromatograph to give NPF-86IA (having 5620 molecular weight), NPF-86IB (having 5000 molecular weight), NPF-86IIA (having 29400 molecular weight) and NPF-86IIB (having 8610 molecular weight). The above- mentioned 6 kinds of compounds are subjected to esterification (sulfur content: 0.1-30%) to provide the antiretroviral substance. |
