PRODUCTION OF 8-CHLOROQUINOLINE-3-CARBOXYLIC ACID DERIVATIVE

PURPOSE:To obtain the subject compound useful as a production intermediate for pharmaceuticals having excellent antibacterial property on an industrial scale at a low cost by reacting a chlorination agent to a specific quinolinecarboxylic acid derivative. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound of formula II can be produced by reacting a quinoline-3-carboxylic acid derivative of formula I (R1 is H or lower alkyl; R2 is H or amino-protecting group) [e.g. 7-(3-amino-1-pyrrolidinyl)-1- cyclopropyl-6-fluoro-1,4-dihydro-4-oxoquinoline-3-carboxylic acid] with a chlorination agent (e.g. chlorine or sulfuryl chloride).
