Operational improvements in the preparation of vinyl chloride by thermal cleavage of 1,2-dichloroethane. To date, the utilisable products of this cleavage process were cooled directly to 25 to 30 DEG C after having left at a quench tower at temperatures around 130 DEG C, followed by working-up by distillation. According to the invention, the cooling process is carried out in two steps, the first step being used for gaining energy. In this two-step cooling process, however, an additional formation of butadiene takes place, this problem being solved according to the invention by feeding iron- and chlorine-containing 1,2-dichloroethane to the particular stream of dichloroethane which acts as the reflux of a column for high-boiling components, in which the bottom of the quench tower is worked up. |
