Production apparatus with change pallets

Workpieces are to be mounted on change pallets in an orientation station and are to be orientated with regard to certain dimensional features relative to the change pallets in such a way that the workpieces, after the transfer of the change pallets to a machining station, assume an extremely accurate, predetermined position there. Ultra-precise positioning of the workpiece can be achieved by applying a new positioning technique, working free of play and in an extremely accurate manner, for the pallet positioning as well as by applying a method according to which the systematic errors of all members affecting the accuracy (e.g. concentricity errors of the bearing arrangement of rotary tables) are determined and are compensated for during the orientation of the workpiece in the orientation station. Used during workpiece exchange by means of pallets with especially high demands on the orientation accuracy, e.g. during the exchange of gears to be accurately machined on gear-cutting machines.
