The hand-held drilling apparatus has a housing (1), a tool holder 2(2) for the fixture of a tool (3), and a damping device (6) which is arranged on the housing (1) and is intended to provide support on an underlying structure (18) possessing hollow chambers (18b). A supporting member (7) of the damping device (6) is mounted in a cylinder (8) fixed to the housing so as to be displaceable parallel to the tool axis along the length of the tool (3) projecting beyond the tool holder (2). In this case, the supporting member (7) is supported on the housing (1) in the displacement direction by means of a hydraulic medium (17) which can escape via outflow openings (11a). The damping device (6) prevents a jerky forward movement of the tool (3) upon entering a hollow chamber (18b) of the underlying structure (18). <IMAGE>
