A pressure filter for liquid-solid mixtures comprises a filter element which is covered by a flexible membrane impermeable to liquid. The liquid-solid mixture is introduced into the space between the filter element and the membrane. A reservoir is provided for a liquid pressure medium which can act on the side of the membrane remote from the liquid solid mixture in such a way that the pressure produced by the pressure medium on the membrane forces the liquid through the filter element and the dehumidified solid is retained on the filter element. In order to obtain a given degree of dehumidification, the quantity of pressure medium supplied per unit time is measured and the supply of pressure medium is cut off when the measured quantity reaches a predetermined small value. A device for determining the quantity of pressure medium supplied per unit time comprises a measuring instrument for determining the quantity of pressure medium flowing out of the reservoir to the membrane.
