PURPOSE:To prevent the mixing and contact of reaction gases and to improve the output property by providing separators furnishing leak gas exhaust grooves with one end opened to the atmosphere provided at the contact surfaces. CONSTITUTION:This fuel cell is composed of a unit cell 15 made by providing an oxidizer electrode 12 and a fuel electrode 13 on both main surfaces of a solid electrolyte plate 11, and separators furnishing a fuel gas flow passage 14, an oxidizer flow passage 7, a fuel gas chamber 8B, and leak gas exhaust grooves 10A and 10B, respectively. The separators have mirror-like polishing contact surfaces 9A and 9B with the electrolyte plate 11. And the separators 6 and the electrolyte plate 11 are superposed alternatively, and pressed by the pressure of 2kg/cm<2> G of a pneumatic cylinder, to form a fuel cell stack. The fuel gas or the oxidizer gas is diffused through the polished contact surfaces and leaked. The leaked reaction gases are exhausted from the system or mixed and contacted each other. The leak gas exhaust grooves 10A and 10B are provided to prevent the mixing and contact. As a result, the reaction gases are never diluted, and a high output voltage can be obtained at a low current density. |
