For the purpose of optimising the washing cycle, a laundry-drum reversing mode adapted to the lye temperature and having a different relative switch-on period of the drive motor is to be executed. A known method, whilst maintaining the conventional average relative switch-on period in the high-temperature phase of the washing lye, increases the said switch-on period by a specific value and at the same time decreases it again by the same amount in the washing-lye heating phase. In the method according to the invention, the relative switch-on period is increased to a permissible maximum even before the start of heating, during the inflow of water, and the washing agents are thereby dissolved more effectively, is reduced in a plurality of steps during the lye-heating phase and at the end, in the so-called rewashing time, is again increased briefly to the maximum or to a value lying somewhat below this. The method serves for optimising the washing cycle in domestic washing machines and, at the same time, for minimising the size of their drive motors. <IMAGE>
