PURPOSE:To lock a noise barn at a constant place on a screen by comparing a tracking error signal with a reference level after sampling with the cycle of a head switching signal, and performing the phase control of a capstan. CONSTITUTION:The output of a circuit 101 to generate the tracking error signal from a reproducing pilot signal is A/D-converted 102, and a phase error is calculated at a microcomputer HCPT 103, and an output error signal is A/D- converted 105. The HCPT 103 fixes a reference number switched sequentially, for example, at f1 when a head switching signal is set at 'H', and at f1+i when it is set at 'L' at the time of performing reproduction at speed of (n) times, and compares the tracking error signal with the reference level after sampling with the cycle of the head switching signal, then, performs the phase control of the capstan.
