<p>A 12 V battery (2) is monitored by an overvoltage detector (4) which is connected to a switching circuit (5) including the lighting switch and circuit-breaker actuated by the operator. A DC voltage auxiliary amplifier (6) and inverter (7) supply a sinusoidal AC voltage to a current limiter and ignition circuit (8) for the lamp (10). The lamp starter (11) sends a pulse to a control circuit (12) to boost the battery voltage, and also activates a lamp failure detector (13).</p>
