In a central locking system, the electric actuator (16) which enables the release of each latch is connected to a primary locking lever (12) having locked and unlocked positions. A secondary locking lever (13) is arranged for manual operation and a load transfer element, such as a spring, connects the two locking levers (12 and 13) to permit the transfer of a limited load from the secondary locking lever (13) to the primary locking lever (12). When the latch is "dead-locked", the secondary locking lever (13) free-wheels without moving the primary locking lever (12).
