A web of paper which is moving towards a fold-over machine receives a strip of a moistening agent or of a sizing agent. A nozzle produces intermittently a jet of the agent parallel to the web in separate droplets just above the web for reception of the surplus in a funnel at the other end for return to the container. An electromagnet arranged below the paper web deflects the droplets on the paper. ADVANTAGE - This applies a non-contact strip of a liquid across a web of paper and requires little cleaning or maintenance.
