Apparatus for detecting unauthorised removal of an object, for example, a vehicle is disclosed, the apparatus comprising a transmitter 2, powered by the vehicle's battery or by other means, a trembler switch 5 for detecting movement of the vehicle and a user operable switch 4 by means of which the apparatus may be armed. In use, when an owner leaves the vehicle, the apparatus is armed by actuation of the switch so that if the vehicle is moved, prior to disarming, the transmitter will transmit a signal. A second vehicle, for example, a police vehicle, includes a receiver 8 for receiving the transmitted frequency. Thus, if a vehicle, with the apparatus armed, is stolen, movement of the vehicle will cause the transmitter to transmit. If the stolen vehicle is subsequently in the vicinity of a police vehicle, having a receiver for receiving the transmitted frequency, the police vehicle may detect the transmitted signal and the occupier of the stolen vehicle may be apprehended. <IMAGE> |
