Case 2973 IMPROVED WHEEL SLIP CONTROL USING DIFFERENTIAL SIGNAL Apparatus for controlling wheel slip in a diesel electric locomotive has sensors which determine wheel speeds for each driven wheel and a circuit which selects the fastest turning wheel and the slowest turning wheel and provides signals representing these and also a circuit which provides signals representing the greatest and smallest acceleration rates for the fastest and slowest turning wheels. When the difference in the fastest and slowest turning wheel speeds exceeds a reference determined by speed, then a creep signal is provided. When the greatest acceleration exceeds a threshold determined by motor current and speed, the greatest acceleration rate is added to the smallest acceleration rate and a rate power reduction signal is provided. A fast servo circuit receives an input representing desired power supplied to the motors and a signal representing actual power and provides a rapidly decreasing power control signal in response to an appreciable decrease in the actual power. The creep signal, rate power reduction signal and the power control signal are summed to reduce the reference signal which controls the motors.
|
