Method to form a filter element comprises (1) providing a ring-shaped corrugated filter element blank having radially alternate peak and valley folds, (2) placing the blank on a first mould which has as many first concentric projections as the number of peak folds of the blank and as many first concentric projectons as the number of peak folds of the blank and as many first concentric grooves as the number of valley folds of the blank, (3) preheating a second mould and locating it upwardly of first mould, where first mould can be moved and pressed against the second mould, (4) pressing the ring-shaped blank between first and second moulds and heating that blank, thus forming a ring-shaped filter element and (5) subsequently cooling the ring-shaped filter element.
