<p>Homonojirimycin glycosides of formula (I) and their acid addn. salts are prepared. In the formula, R is glycosyl or acylated glycosyl radical contg. 1-3 hexose or pentose units and attachment is at the 1-position of the glycosyl radical. Specific cpd. is 2,6-imino-2,6- dideoxy-7-0-(beta-d-glucopyranosyl) -Dglycero-L-gulo-heptitol hydrochloride dihydrate. (I) are inhibitors of carbohydrate digestive enzymes and are useful for treating diabetes. (I) prevent initial formation of glucose and thus hold down the quantity of glucose in blood.</p> |
