A number of cathode assemblies (25) and spaced successive electrodes (27,28,31,33,35) are mounted on at least two electrically-insulative support rods (23). At least one of the electrodes (31) comprises a deep-drawn rectangular CUP-shaped member (45) having a base portion, a supporting flange portion, including a plurality of attachment tabs, and a sidewall extending in between. The sidewall includes a number of reinforcing ribs formed within it which extend from the supporting flange portion to the opposite end of the sidewall adjacent to the base. The reinforcing ribs minimise the flexure of the sidewall.
