The waste liquor is passed downwards through an adsorption bed of filled adosrbent substrates (ceramic or organic mouldings, net plate of fiber or spherical fiber fillers). The adsorption is initiated at the top and continued through the bed. The voids between the substrates are uniformly distributed and the substrates preferably have a surface area sufficient for adsorption and a passage cross section sufficient to allow flow of the liquor without clogging occurring for at least two months. The method is used in regenerating the waste pickling liguor into HCl for reuse and the high purity inon opide for prodn. of ferrites and pigments.
