An electrical detonating system for sequentially activating a series of explosions uses a harness which has a chain of resistors. Electrical detonators which fuse into an open circuit condition are connected between a power line and the junctions between the resistors. Constant current activating pulses are supplied to one end of the chain and the power line from a shot exploder. In order to ensure that each pulse only activates one detonator, the shot exploder is "intelligent" and terminates each pulse when it detects a voltage increase. The activating pulses may be supplied to a remote end of the chain of resistors via a further power line. The resistors may then be grouped and link elements provided between the groups and the further power line. These links are sequentially utilised to establish relocated start links between the shot exploder and the chain of resistors.
