1,3-Dihydro-6-methyl-7-hydroxy-furo-(3,4-C)-pyridine derivs. of formula (I) and their salts, useful as diuretics, hypotensives and hypolipidemies. In (I), A1 and A2 are each C1-5 hydrocarbon, thienyl or furyl, phenyl cyclohexyl, or phenylalk(en)yl. Each of A1 and A2 are opt. substd. by at least one of Cl or F, CF3, C1-5 alkyl, alkoxy or alkylthio, etc. To obtain (I) the sec. alpha 4,3o-isopropylidene- 1-methyl-5-(1-hydroxy-1-A1)-methyl pyridine is oxidised. Prod. is then reacted with XA2 (X= Br or I) in the presence of Mg/Et2O. The subsequent tert. alc. prod. is treated with acidic agent to break isopropylidene ring and cause 3,4cyclization.
