SILICON - CARBIDE SINTERING BODY AND THEREOF MANUFACTURE

摘要

The silicon carbide-alumina composite sintered body comprises dispersion of SiC particles in matrix of alpha-alumina particles. SiC particles are less than 0.1 micron and alumina particles are less than 5 microns. The composite is formed by mixing at least 2 mol% SiC with particle size below 0.5 micron with balance alumina particles of size below 0.5 micron and sintering at 1400-1800 deg.C. The SiC particles are up to 10 mol% of mixt. The dispersion of SiC as discrete particles prevents oxidn. which occurs when body contg. continuous SiC phase is heated in air. It is useful as structural material for engine parts used up to 1000 deg.C.
