<p>A unit for regulating the flow in a pipe system, such as a sewer system, comprises a vortex chamber 40 with an inlet opening and an outlet opening 43, in which opposite the inlet opening there is an inlet orifice plate 10, which can be moved down in front of the inlet opening to a greater or lesser extent. When the inlet orifice plate 10 is in a position in which it covers a part of the inlet opening, the quantity of liquid flowing in can pass freely into the vortex chamber, provided that the upstream liquid level is lower than the lower edge of the orifice plate 10. If the upstream level is higher than the bottom edge of the inlet orifice plate, a proportion of the inlet flow will be from above and downwards around the bottom edge. The inlet orifice plate has a shape such that the quantity of liquid arriving from above will cause a contraction of the inflowing jet of water, so that its speed is increased and the braking effect of the chamber is enhanced. This means that the unit according to the invention can be designed with a larger inlet opening to the chamber. The capacity of the unit at a small upstream pressure is thereby increased and the risk of blockage is reduced. <IMAGE></p> |
