PURPOSE: To decrease the production cost of a zeolite fluid cracking catalyst by spray drying an aq. slurry containing a specified coarse kaoline clay to produce porous aggregated microspheres and then calcining. CONSTITUTION: The slurry of microspheres of a calcined clay is heated at an enough temp. for an enough time to crystallize Y-faujasite in the microspheres so as to produce 40 wt.% Y-faujasite in a sodium form. Then after the microspheres containing Y-faujasite are separated from at least most of the mother liquid, the sodium cation in the separated microspheres is substituted with ammonium or rare earth cation or both of these to produce a high zeolite-content fluid cracking catalyst.
