NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula [X is H or methyl; Y is 1-18C alkyl, phenyl, -CH2CH2Cl, -CH2CH2O-Z-etc. (Z is H, methyl, ethyl, phenyl. etc.)]. EXAMPLE:3-(Nonyl propionate)-hydantoin. USE:An additive for thermal recording material. The additive is used in a thermal recording layer of a thermal recording material utilizing the reaction of a basic dye with a color-developing agent, improves the recording sensitivity, has excellent high-speed recording performance and does not cause the loss of stability of the thermal recording layer such as the lowering of whiteness. PREPARATION:The compound of formula can be produced by reacting hydantoin with an acrylic acid ester or a methacrylic acid ester in a polar aprotic solvent in the presence of a basic catalyst (e.g. KOH) and a polymerization inhibitor (e.g. hydroquinone) at 50-160 deg.C. |
